As you know, Tarotgraphe is a small family-run business that restores, prints, and crafts tarot decks entirely by hand, following the ancestral methods of the Marseille “maîtres cartiers” of the 17th and 18th centuries since 2023.
Through this meticulous work, we bring a long-lost heritage back to life card by card.
Creating artisanal tarot decks is not a commercial choice, it is a calling, a commitment, and an act of preservation.
It is also a form of resistance in a world where globalization, industrialization, and the replacement of human hands by machines accelerate every day.
But today, our business is in danger.
Why?
Because the vast majority of the tarot market has shifted to mass-produced decks made in China, with a production cost ranging from €0.50 to €2 per deck, sold to the public for €20 to €40.
A price that is, of course, impossible to compete with for a small artisanal company like ours.
At Tarotgraphe, we have no factory, no modern machinery, no outsourcing, and no production lines.
But our tarots have something else: a soul. They are living, authentic, and unique, no two decks are ever exactly the same, and they are made to last for generations.
Yet in a society of overconsumption, where quantity often prevails over quality, our business is no longer sustainable.
We are the last “cartiers” in the world still practicing this ancestral craft, including the traditional Marseille soap smoothing technique.
If nothing changes, we will be forced to close our doors in the coming months.

Comme vous le savez, Tarotgraphe est une petite entreprise familiale qui restaure, imprime et confectionne des tarots à la main selon la méthode ancestrale des maîtres cartiers marseillais du 17 et du 18e siècle depuis 2023.
A travers ce travail minutieux, c’est un patrimoine disparu que nous faisons revivre carte après carte.
Produire des tarots artisanaux n’est pas un choix commercial, c’est une vocation et un engagement qui a permis de faire renaître un patrimoine autrefois disparu.
Mais c’est aussi un acte de résistance face à un monde dans lequel la mondialisation, l’industrialisation et le remplacement du travail de l’homme par les machines s'accélèrent jour après jour.
Mais aujourd’hui, notre entreprise est en péril.
Pourquoi ?
Parce que l’immense majorité du marché du tarot s’est tourné vers des jeux produits en masse en chine pour un coût de production compris entre 0,50€ à 2€ par jeu revendu de 20€ à 40€. Un tarif bien évidemment imbattable pour une petite entreprise artisanale comme la nôtre.
Chez Tarotgraphe, nous n’avons ni usine, ni outillage moderne, ni sous-traitance, ni chaînes de montage, mais nos tarots possèdent une âme : ils sont vivants, authentiques, uniques car il est impossible de produire deux jeux de façon parfaitement identiques et fait pour durer sur plusieurs générations.
Mais dans une société de surconsommation ou la quantité prime souvent sur la qualité, notre entreprise n’est plus viable aujourd’hui.
Nous sommes les derniers cartiers au monde à faire perdurer ce savoir-faire ancestral qui inclut le lissage au savon de Marseille conformément à la tradition.
Et si la situation n’évolue pas, nous allons devoir mettre la clé sous la porte dans les prochains mois..

Aujourd’hui, je vous parle avec toute la sincérité du cœur. Depuis plusieurs mois, nous faisons face à une baisse significative des commandes et nous ne pouvons plus continuer à donner vie à Tarotgraphe.
Mais si ceux qui aiment le tarot de Marseille et sa véritable tradition ancestrale se mobilisent aujourd’hui, alors l’histoire ne s'arrêtera pas là.
