Facsimile restored : For this new edition, I restored the original facsimile of the museum Fournier de Naipes de Alava according to my knowledge in history of the art. Lines (faces, numbers, letters, etc) have been reconstructed and colors have been revived to rectify the ravages of times. I volontary kept the original defaults of production not to alter the original master piece.

Hand-cut.
Digital printing on handmade french cotton paper.
2 glued sheets of 160 GSM.
Smoothing with “savon de Marseille” (optional, 50€).

This «tarot de Marseille» was published in 1743 in Avignon by Jean Payen, son of the famous cartier Jean-Pierre Payen. According to my researches, it seems that this tarot was made from the same engraving woodblock than the tarot of Philippe Vachier from 1639, only colours are differents from one deck to the other. For exemple, all purple colours of the tarot of Vachier were replaced by the blue colour in the Payen’s edition. But Jean Payen also replaced the titles of some arcanas. So it means that this Tarot seems to be one of the first Tarot de Marseille known today. This limited edition of the Jean Payen’s tarot is restaured in Aix en Provence, about 69 km from Avignon by Florent Giraud with the permission of the Fournier museum of Naipes de Aleva.
