[Handcrafted] Jean Noblet (78c)

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE DECK :

The tarot of Jean Noblet was made in Paris in 1650. According to Stav Appel (Torah in the Tarot), this particularly small tarot (5.7 9.2 cm) was designed to provide Hebrew instruction to French Jewish children in a context of religious oppression. Indeed, during the 17th century, Jews were particularly persecuted by the French regime which prohibited the practice of Judaism in France.

The Jews were therefore compelled to conceal their teachings. It is in this political-religious context that the tarot of Jean Noblet would have seen the light. In order to continue the education of young Jews, one or more members of the Parisian Jewish community would have ordered from the engraver and cartier Jean Noblet a Marseille tarot which would contain a large number of Hebrew symbols.

This is the reason why the iconography of this tarot does not correspond to the standard of the TdM type 1 or the standard of the TdM type 2.

• Facsimilé restauré : Il s’agit d’un fac similé intégralement restauré selon nos connaissances en histoire de l’art. Chaque ligne et contours (visages, formes, lettres, nombres, etc) ont été entièrement reconstitués et les couleurs ont été restaurées tels qu’elles etaient en 1650. Les défauts de production du tarot original de la BNF ont été préservés afin de respecter l’authenticité de ce chef d’oeuvre.

• 78 cartes + 1 carte de présentation

• Taille : 5,70mm x 9,20mm (taille originale historique).

• Découpé à la main.

• Imprimé sur du papier de coton artisanal.

• Contre-collage de deux feuilles de 160 g/m² selon la méthode traditionnelle (320 g/m² par carte).

INFORMATIONS A PROPOS DU TAROT :

Le tarot de Jean Noblet a été fabriqué à Paris en 1650. Selon Stav Appel (Torah in the Tarot), ce tarot étrangement petit (5,7 x 9,2 cm), a été conçu pour dispenser un enseignement hébraïque aux enfants juifs français dans un contexte d'oppression religieuse.
En effet, au XVIIe siècle, les Juifs étaient particulièrement persécutés par le régime français, qui interdisait la pratique du judaïsme en France. Les Juifs étaient donc contraints de dissimuler leurs enseignements. C'est dans ce contexte politico-religieux que le tarot de Jean Noblet aurait vu le jour.

Afin de poursuivre l'éducation des jeunes Juifs, un ou plusieurs membres de la communauté juive parisienne auraient commandé au graveur et cartier Jean Noblet, un tarot de Marseille contenant un grand nombre de symboles hébreux ainsi que des lettres hébraïques.
C'est la raison pour laquelle l'iconographie de ce tarot ne correspond pas au standard du type 1 TdM ni au standard du type 2 TdM.
